Next Saturday the militants of the PSD-Lisbon choose between the continuity of Luís Newton and the alternative of Alexandre Simões. With the lists already published, the challenger to the council adds some important names, such as the former leader of the PSD, Manuela Ferreira Leite, and militants who were part of the entourage by Carlos Moedas during the municipal campaign for the Lisbon City Council.
Ricardo Mexia, president of the Lumiar parish council and director of the campaign that led Moedas to lead the municipality, and João Maria Jonet, who was part of the staff of the candidacy of the current mayor of Lisbon, joins the list of ‘purses’ in this candidacy.
The president of the Order of Nurses, Ana Rita Cavaco, and the former deputy and lawyer, António Pinheiro Torres, are other names that support the candidacy of the Social Democratic deputy. Miguel Morgado was the name chosen to be the representative of the candidacy. She heads the list of supporters Manuela Ferreira Leite, who claims to “trust” the deputy to “regenerate the PSD Lisbon.”
Alexandre Simões wants to take away Newton’s council to restore “loyalty and credibility” in the PSD
Behind the scenes of PSD Lisboa, there are those who lament the “lack of renewal” in both lists that compete for the municipality, at a “delicate” moment for the leadership of Carlos Moedas, who will face “important challenges” next year. “Carlos Moedas needs a strong PSD in Lisbon, he also needed different solutions, but unfortunately that will not happen”, comments the PSD.
In the eyes of the Social Democrats, heard by the Observer, Alexandre Simões still manages to surprise with Vice President Alexandre Patrício Gouveia. The other vice president is the deputy Joana Barata Lopes and Alexandra Barreiras Duarte appears as secretary.
André Pardal, lawyer, national adviser to the PSD and former deputy is the candidate for the presidency of the table of the Assembly of Militants of the municipality of Lisbon.
