Four opposition parties to the PL of Jair Bolsonaro and Carla Zambelli have already submitted requests for the federal deputy to lose her mandate. After Carla Zambelli got involved in clashes and brandished a gun as she chased a man on Saturday, opposition parties are now trying to reach the Ethics Council, claiming the MP breached “decency”.
The accusation that Zambelli could be sentenced for having violated the electoral law that prohibits the use and carrying of weapons in the vicinity of polling stations has already been dismissed. It was the Ministry of Public Security itself that, in a note, confirmed that the persecution occurred “more than 100 meters from an electoral section” and that, therefore, “it should not be framed as a breach of the electoral resolution” of December that prohibits the transport of weapons in the 48 hours prior to election day and in the vicinity of polling stations.
With this route closed, the opposition parties now make use of what they describe as a “break in decorum” by the parliamentarian, who was recorded with a gun in her hand behind a man in the streets of São Paulo.
The complaints are addressed to the Ethics Council of the Brazilian Chamber and for the parliamentarian to effectively lose her mandate it is necessary that the absolute majority of the deputies approve it, that is, 257 votes are needed for the processes now filed by the opposition to take effect.
In addition to lawsuits filed by the opposition, Brazilian citizens, other civil entities or individual deputies can also file complaints through the “Corregedoria and the Board of Directors,” according to the Brazilian newspaper Estadão.
It is about the incident that involved the deputy and a supporter of Lula da Silva on Saturday in São Paulo. Several videos were published on Twitter, recorded from different angles, that allow us to reconstruct what happened, although there is not a single video that allows us to see the unfolding of the events without cuts.
The deputy herself published a video on Instagram where she says that she was “spit on” by the man and “insulted” and that she only reacted after being “shoved”, although the videos show the moment when Zambelli falls to the ground and it is possible to see that at that moment, the man who was later chased was already walking away from the place where they argued.

Supporters of Lula da Silva consider that everything was a “farce”, that it was “orchestrated” by the deputy and has multiplied in the publications of videos recorded from various angles to show what happened.

There are also videos, recorded in front of Zambelli, where the parliamentarian can be seen with a gun in the air behind the man and where a shot is heard. This Sunday, Brazilian authorities confirmed that the shooting was carried out by Carla Zambelli’s security guard.

The man is a military policeman, who was off duty and was arrested. Only after posting bail equivalent to the country’s minimum wage was he released again. During the time he was detained, the man underwent a residue analysis on his hands that confirmed a gunshot.
