The North Korean leader called for the strengthening of the power structures, at various levels, of the single party, at the plenary session of the organization in Pyongyang, the official state news agency KCNA reported on Thursday.
Kim Jong-un “emphasized the need to increase the effectiveness of the struggle of party organizations” and modernize the way administrative work is doneKCNA said on the third day of the sixth plenary session of the eighth central committee of the Workers’ Party of North Korea.
“Improve the performance of provincial party committees, party secretaries of major regions and their chief secretaries” and find “practical ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the party’s ideological work,” Kim said.
North Korean Prime Minister Kim Tok-hun addressed the need to urgently resolve “current problems” including economic development issues, KCNA added, without elaborating.
KCNA said the meeting would continue, without saying when it would end.
Kim Jong-un is scheduled to deliver a closing speech, to be made public on Sunday, in which the North Korean leader is likely to give some hints about the country’s diplomatic direction in 2023.
This important meeting comes at a time of historic tension on the peninsula, where Pyongyang has conducted a record number of weapons tests this year, and Seoul and Washington have resumed major military exercises and the temporary deployment of strategic US assets.
