June 1 (UPI) — The PGA Tour announced Wednesday that Bart Bryant, who passed Tiger Woods in two of his three PGA Tour wins, died in a car accident. 59 years old.
The PGA Tour said the accident happened on Tuesday, while the Florida Times-Union said it was in Florida. Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to a request for information. Bryant lives in Winter Garden, Florida.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement, “The PGA Tour is saddened by the tragic death of Bart Bryant, and we offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.” Said.
The Bryants have been part of the PGA Tour family for over four decades, and we are grateful for his legacy and impact on our organization and countless communities. We will miss Bart very much.”
Texas native Gatesville turned pro in 1986. He got his first PGA Tour win at the 2004 Valero Texas Open. Bryant won twice in 2005, winning championships at the Memorial Tournament and on the Tour.
It took an even 17 points to beat Woods by six runs to clinch the tour title. This gap represents the second-largest rank gap of Woods’ career.
Bryant defeated Fred Par by one blow to win the 2005 title in Texas. Woods, Jeff Slooman and Bo Van Pelt finished third this year.
Bryant’s best finish in the Major was 23rd at the 2005 British Open. He finished 29th at the 2008 US Open and 32nd at the 2007 PGA Championships. Bryant played two Masters in 2006 and 2007.
He then joined the PGA Tour Champions, where he won the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open twice. He last dived on this senior tour at the Cologuard Classic in March 2020.
Bryant is survived by his wife Donna, children Kristen and Michelle, and adopted children.
