Boston Celtic’s Jaylen Brown said on Tuesday that players should boycott the NBA Finals because of gun violence across the country.
NBC Sports Boston tweeted an interview with Brown. she asked“Whether it’s the gun violence we’ve seen in the country lately, or something else in the country… Do you think there will ever come a moment, players or coaches or both: ‘We know this is the final, but I can’t play tonight’?
Brown replied, “Sure.”
“Sometimes people are like, ‘What effect does stopping a basketball game have?’ they argue. I would say it creates awareness and that is important.”

He elaborated: “Absolutely, something needs to be addressed. Sometimes people argue, and what exactly is the impact on society of stopping a basketball game or something? And in response, I’d say it raises awareness and that’s important. It gets people’s attention.”
“There’s an issue that’s being discussed right now and some people are putting pressure on them and they need to start making changes,” Brown said.
“This is an effective strategy that could work,” he said, revisiting the idea of player boycotts in games.
On May 26, 2022, Breitbart News reported that Kerr had partnered with the Brady Campaign, a pro-gun control group, and used the Uvalde hunt to raise political funds.
The Brady Campaign website has a video of Kerr using it for gun control, with the following text below the video:
Our country survived the elementary school massacre in Texas. But we know one thing: we cannot allow the tragedy that occurred in Uvalde, Texas to happen again. Brady has set an ambitious $50,000 emergency response goal so we can work right away and demand life-saving laws like assault weapons. [a term which Biden’s nominee to lead the ATF, David Chipman, admitted to the Senate he could not define] ban and expanded background checks.
On June 4, 2022, Breitbart News reported that former Duke coach Mike Krzyszewski used an interview on the ESPNU Sirius XM to praise Kerr for his stance on gun control.
Krzhizhevsky also noted his personal belief that the desire to have “automatic weapons” is “abhorrent.”
