Spartak Moscow Football Club announced today, Friday, the official appointment of Spanish coach Guillermo Abascal, a day after the resignation of former Italian coach Paolo Fanoli.

Spartak Moscow posted a statement on its official Twitter account, saying: “Official: Guillermo Abascal is Spartak’s new coach.”

He added: “The 33-year-old Spaniard is second in the Swiss league this season with FC Basel, and is considered one of the most promising young managers in Europe.”

Abascal is considered a graduate of the academies of Barcelona and Seville, he did not play in the first team and immediately focused all his efforts on a teaching career.

The Spanish coach worked with Sevilla’s youth team, and then with Swiss clubs Chiasso and Lugano (and saved him from relegation from the Premier League), and served as coach of Italian club Ascoli and Greek club Volos.

And he coached Basel FC at the beginning of 2022, and with him he earned second place in the Swiss Super League.
