The Alpine rider beat Frenchman Fábio Quartararo (Yamaha), current champion and leader of the championship, by 0.076 seconds, while his compatriot Johann Zarco (Ducati) was third, with 0.099.
Miguel Oliveira, who was the best rider on a KTM, starts from the middle of the fifth row of the starting grid, ahead of his teammate, South African Brad Binder (KTM). In the third free practice session, held this morning, Miguel Oliveira was 10th fastest, which places him 11th in the sum of the three sessions, losing direct entry to Q2 by just 0.020 seconds.
In the final attempt to set a fastest lap in Q1, the Portuguese driver failed to brake as he improved his time, having to go through the escape route.
In 2021, the Portuguese rider was second in this race, only surpassed by the Spanish Marc Márquez (Honda), who is out of the championship due to injury, being replaced at Honda by the German Stefan Bradl, a test rider at the Japanese factory. .
The Spanish Alex Rins (Suzuki) is not in this race either, due to a fracture he suffered in the previous race, in Catalunya. Suzuki did not pick any rider to replace Rins. Frenchman Fábio Quartararo (Yamaha) leads the championship, with 147 points, while Miguel Oliveira is 11th, with 57.
