The Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), who competes in MotoGP, the Motorcycle Speed World Championship, revealed that he had a car accident in Ibiza, at dawn on Tuesday, having tested positive for breathalyzer.
On Monday night I was in Ibiza with my friends at a party during this break without MotoGP races. We celebrate my victory together in Assen [nos Países Baixos]. Leaving the nightclub, around 03:00, I ended up with the two front wheels in a ditch at a roundabout without involving other vehicles or people,” said the transalpine driver, on social networks.
The current fourth place in the World Speed Championship regretted “the mistake I should not have made”making sure you’ve learned your lesson.
The alcohol control carried out by the police determined that I drank more than the Spanish law allows. I am very sorry about what happened. It was a mistake I shouldn’t have made. I apologize and I assure you that I learned my lesson. Never get behind the wheel if you have been drinking alcohol. Thank you,” Bagnaia added.
The Motorcycling Speed World Championship is led by Frenchman Fábio Quartararo (Yamaha), with 172 points and 21 points ahead of Aleix Espargaró (second), while Miguel Oliveira is in 10th place, with 71 points.
