Singer Macy Gray blamed NBC for refusing to let her band wear a “Free Britney Greener” T-shirt on Thursday’s broadcast.
Gray’s keyboardist, Billy Wes, was spotted walking into the studio in one of the T-shirts Thursday morning. However, when this episode aired, he or his bandmates were not wearing T-shirts urging Russia to release the WNBA player from prison. reported.
“They took me out. He said I couldn’t wear it, so I had to take it out inside. But you all know what time it is: free Britney,” the musician said.

Gray added that the network’s decision to ban the T-shirt “really pisses me off.”
“We wanted to wear them on the show but they refused because I assumed something was up,” Gray said.
Gray added that he does not see Griner’s situation as a political issue.
“I don’t think it’s political. This is someone who is in a really terrible situation and there are people who can do something about it. That’s what they have to do,” he said.

Griner, of course, was in Russia and played for the Russian basketball team during the WNBA off-season. But she was arrested because she had a CBD cartridge in her trunk when she tried to leave the country. He was arrested in February and charged with drug possession and has since spent every day in a prison in Russia.
The WNBA player recently wrote a letter to the Biden administration asking for help getting him out of Russia’s legal system, but was found guilty this week of possession of a vape cartridge.
