The Iranian team beat their Syrian counterpart 80-67 in the first round of the third group of the Asian Basketball Cup hosted by Indonesia.
Both teams were close in the first and second quarters ending 22:18 and 22:20. The Syrian team fell back in the third quarter where it ended 21:12 and the last quarter ended 15-12.
Khanam Yakhshali played on the Iranian team with 31 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steels, while Hani Derby was the best on the Syrian team with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steels.
In the second match of Group D, the Indian team suffered a heavy defeat by New Zealand with a score of 100-47.
There was a clear height difference between the two teams and New Zealand completely dominated the match as the quarters went as follows: 30-12, 34-9, 16-14 and 20-12.
Sam Mninga qualified for New Zealand with 21 points, while Prashat Singh qualified for India with 4 points and 12 rebounds.
