The Portuguese Vera Barbosa will compete this Tuesday in the qualification of the 400 meters with hurdles at the World Championships in Athletics, in Eugene, United States.
In her second participation in the World Cup, 11 years later, the athlete from Vila Franca de Xira, 33, looking to improve their best record of the yearthe 56.37 seconds achieved in Madrid last June, in the fifth series, starting at 17:47 local time (02:47 on Wednesday in Lisbon).
Vera Barbosa managed to return to the big competitions, after having been in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, without passing the qualifiers, and London 2012, where she reached the semifinals and set her personal best at 55.22.
The Portuguese sweeper qualified for Eugene2022 with 40th place in the classification at the beginning of the 18 world championships with the 36th mark of the year, in a hierarchy headed by the North American Sydney McLaughlin (51.41), Olympic champion and runner-up in the world.
To advance to the semifinals, Vera Barbosa, who holds the best Portuguese classification in the disciplinewith 24th place at Daegu2011, he must be in the top four of the heat or achieve one of the top four times among the rest.
The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, starting at 18:15 local time (02:15 on Thursday), and the final for Friday, at 19:50 (03:50).
