Lorena Wiebes wins the “sprint” of the fifth stage of the Women’s Tour de France

The Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes (DSM) won this Thursday in the “pique” the fifth stage of the women’s Tour de France, in which her compatriot Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) took the lead in the individual general classification.

Wiebes confirmed her credentials as the strongest sprinter in the peloton, aged 23, completing the 175.6 kilometers between Bar-le-Duc and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in 4:32.16 hours.

In second place was Italian Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo), with the yellow jersey completing the podium of the day, adding bonus seconds.

Vos now leads by 20 seconds ahead of the closest pursuers, Italy’s Silvia Persico (Valcar — Travel & Service), second, and Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM), third.

The day was marked by another collective fall during the diatribe, which “victimized” the Danish Emma Norsgaard (Movistar), forced to leave.

On Friday, the sixth stage joins Sélestat with Le Markstein in 127.1 kilometres, in a high mountain day with three top-level scores.
