Christian NWSL Player Didn’t Play After Refusing To Wear The Honor Jersey

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) player decided to skip the game on Friday night instead of wearing the Honor jersey that his team should have worn.

Carolina Courage’s Christian defender Jaylene Daniels spoke about her dedication to her faith when announcing her decision not to play because of her pride-themed jerseys.

“I will stay depend on my faith and my desire to know that my love for people is not based on their belief systems or their sexuality,” she wrote on social media. “I pray and believe wholeheartedly that my teammates know how much I appreciate, respect and love them.”

Courage said they were “disappointed” with Daniels’ decision.

“Jelen is not in the lineup tonight because she has decided not to wear our Pride jersey,” the team said in a statement via ESPN. “While we were disappointed in his choice, we respect his right to make that decision himself.

We are excited to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community tonight with our fans, actors and staff, and we look forward to hosting our first Pride Festival before it kicks off.”

This isn’t Daniels’ first choice over a career in principle. In 2017, the quarterback turned down an offer to play for the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) because of the team’s plan to wear the pride-themed jersey.
