Foreign media announced on Saturday, July 30, 2022 that eight models were gang-raped by a “terrifying” armed gang in South Africa on Thursday, the 28th of the same month.
British newspaper The Mirror says an art production team was filming a music video in the suburb of Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, South Africa, before masked gunmen, who they said were illegal miners, stormed the scene.
When the girls tried to run away, the gang randomly shot them to cause panic.
The models, aged between 18 and 35, were ordered to lie on the floor next to the production crew and masked gang members began stealing the victims’ phones, jewelery and purses before launching a gang rape that angered authorities. .
According to this newspaper, the victims were raped several times in a row and the total number of rapes reached 32 people.
On the other hand, with the presence of police forces, there was an exchange of fire and two illegal miners were killed and another person was injured, but 17 people escaped.
Police also arrested another 65 illegal miners on suspicion of immigration offenses during a massive manhunt for gang rape.
In this context, AFP quoted South African Police Minister Becky Seeley as saying that three suspects out of about 20 suspects have been arrested so far following the attack.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that one of them was raped by 10 men and the other was raped by 8 men.

According to AFP, the men of the work team were also attacked because they took off their clothes and belongings.
“The suspects appear to be foreigners, especially illegal miners,” Seliye told reporters on the sidelines of the African National Congress political conference in Johannesburg on Saturday.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced at the same conference that he had instructed the police minister to “ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are apprehended”.
On average, the South African police receives a report of sexual assault every 12 minutes, and despite this high number, many rapes in the country go unreported.
