Major League Baseball (MLB) suffered a huge loss Tuesday when it was announced that legendary Los Angeles Dodgers sportscaster Vin Scully has died at the age of 94.
“He is the voice of the Dodgers and more. From Jackie Robinson to Sandy Koufax to Kirk Gibbs to Clayton Kershaw, it was their award-winning poets on conscience who captured their beauty and their glory,” Dodgers said in a statement Tuesday night. “Vin Scully is the heart of the Dodgers and in many ways Los Angeles. Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten described Scully as an “icon” and “one of the greatest voices in all sports”.
“He is a giant not only as a TV presenter, but also as a humanitarian. He loves people. He loves life. He loves baseball and Dodgers. And he loves his family. His voice will always be heard and will remain in our minds forever. I know you’ve been looking forward to meeting the love of your life, Sandy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time. Vin will be truly missed.”

Scully’s death comes a little over a year after his longtime wife, Sandra, died as a result of a battle with ALS.
He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 for his years in sports broadcasting.
