It was almost one of those soap operas in which by chance we caught the first chapter, we followed it because the plot was good and complicated but where, when the last chapter arrived, the final outcome was already expected and easy to anticipate. This Tuesday, after weeks of indecision, Miguel Oliveira ended the soap opera: the Portuguese rider will even leave KTM and move to Aprilia in 2023.

Even before the press conference called by Miguel Oliveira for this Tuesday and in the run-up to the San Marino Grand Prix next weekend, Aprilia itself confirmed in a statement the news that it had already indicated that it had effectively rejected the final proposal. from Tech3. A) Yes, the Almada rider will race next season for RNF, Aprilia’s satellite team, ending a long association with KTM that lasted from 2015 and the days of Moto3.
The last proposal did not work: Miguel Oliveira will have rejected Tech3 for the last time and will even go to Aprilia
It should be remembered that, last week, Stefan Pierer, executive director of Pierer Mobility, owner of KTM, revealed that he had presented a new proposal with a view to the permanence of Miguel Oliveira, offering a three-year bond and leveraging the idea with the new GASGAS project, a brand that has partnered with Tech3 for 2023. However, in an interview with the German magazine Speedweek, he immediately admitted that he was not very optimistic, especially since Miguel Oliveira had already signed a letter of intent with Aprilia.
“I don’t think Miguel will race with us in 2023 because he signed a letter of intent with Aprilia. Now we assure you that Tech3 will be a true factory second team in the future. He didn’t know this when we offered him the move to Tech3 in May. If he had known at the time how the team would be structured in the future, he might have stayed. He was a little sore when we signed Jack Miller, but that’s what it is. Now let’s wait and see what Miguel says. If he wants, there’s a place at Tech3. The ball is now in his hands. We offered him a three-year contract so that he would have stability and build the GASGAS project with Pol [Espargaró]Pier said.

This Monday, the same Speedweek announced that Miguel Oliveira had even chosen to reject the latest proposal from the KTM satellite team and decided signs for RNF, where he will have to team up with Raúl Fernández, who curiously currently runs in Tech3. There, together with Pol Espargaró, the solution should fall on Augusto Fernández, current leader of the Moto2 World Championship.
The Portuguese rider made his debut with KTM in 2015, in Moto3, when he was runner-up in the category. The following year, when he entered Moto2, he still rode for Kalex’s Leopard Racing, then moved permanently to KTM until today. He finished third in the Moto2 World Championship in 2017 and runner-up in 2018, which guarantees his promotion to MotoGP. through Tech3 to then make the leap to the factory team in 2021. In total, in the MotoGP World Championship he has four victories, six podiums and one pole positionwith the best overall result of 9th place in the 2020 general classification.
