Two investigating judges of the Court of Paris have taken charge of the investigation of the alleged case of extortion, in March 2022, of the French international soccer player Paul Pogba, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the French capital announced this Friday.
Paris Attorney General Laure Beccuau said in a statement that, following the first investigations launched on August 3, an investigation was opened against unknown persons for organized extortion and criminal association.
The 29-year-old midfielder of the Italian team Juventus, Benfica’s opponent in the Champions League, filed a complaint on July 16, in Turin, for having been threatened by acquaintances in an apartment, demanding payment of 13 million euros.
Pogba, France’s 2018 world champion, said he had handed over 100,000 euros to the suspected kidnappers and signed a document pledging to pay the remaining large amount.
According to the French press, the Central Division for the Fight against Organized Crime of the French Judicial Police has already questioned several people close to the player, such as his mother, as well as himself.
Among the possible suspects is Pogba’s older brother, Mathias, 32, an international for Guinea-Conakry, where the family comes from, but who had a more modest career as a footballer.
On social networks, Mathias recently declared that he had “explosive revelations” to make about his younger brother and the French striker and international Kylian Mbappé, from Paris Saint-Germain, another team included in Group H of the “Champions”, which includes to Benfica. and the Israeli Maccabi Haifa.
Supposedly, Paul’s brother will have proof that the ‘Juve’ midfielder hired an African witch to cast an ‘evil eye’ on his teammate Mbappé.
Paul Pogba, with 91 games and 11 goals for Les Bleus, returned to the Turin team after six seasons at the English club Manchester United, currently recovering from an injury to his right knee.
