Sporting debuted this Wednesday in the 2022/23 edition of the UEFA Youth Football League with a draw against Eintracht Frankfurt (1-1), in a Group D match in which the ‘lions’ wasted several scoring opportunities.
At Sportpark Dreieich, on the outskirts of Frankfurt, Sporting went ahead in the 10th minutewith Rodrigo Ribeiro appearing completely free in the area and scoring successfully, after assistance from Samuel Justo.
Before the break, Essugo, with a great shot from distance, forced the Austrian Matteo Bignetti to stop.
In the second half, Filipe Çelikkaya’s team had more of the ball, but it was Eintracht Frankfurt who scored, in a counterattack finished off by Schäfer, in the 62nd minute.
the lisbon team was close to the second goalfirst by Isnaba Mané and then by Rodrigo Ribeiro, but the score remained level until the end, with Eintracht Frankfurt reduced to 10 units already in added time, at minute 90+3, due to the expulsion of Louis Kolbe.
In the other match of Group D, Tottenham and Marseille will face each other this Wednesday, in London, starting at 2:00 p.m.
Last season, Sporting reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League, but ended up being eliminated at that stage by Benfica (4-0), the team that would go on to win the competition.
