Football clubs around the world spent $5 billion during this year’s summer transfer market, the highest ever, according to a report released by the International Federation of the Game (FIFA).

From the beginning of June to the first of September, 9,717 transfers were made worldwide, according to the official website of the International Federation, an increase of 16.2% compared to the same period last year, which is a record, before the application of a new rule that will limit the costs of European clubs , especially the English Premier League, on transfers.

At the same time, the cost of these transfers exceeded what the clubs spent over the same period last year by 29.7%.

According to British media reports, Liverpool paid 100 million euros (about $99.98 million) to sign Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, while Real Madrid signed Monaco’s Aurélien Chuamini for the same amount.

Women’s teams also set a record with 684 deals completed in the same period, up 14.4% year-over-year.
