Scotland and former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton have pointed out that Liverpool’s problems are not only due to the low level of team star Mohamed Salah.

Hatton’s words came after numerous criticisms of the Egyptian player due to his performance in matches since the start of the season, as he was unable to score goals and make decisive passes.

“I think part of the problem is that the team as a whole hasn’t reached the level it has been in the past,” Hutton said.

He added: “You wonder if this phase is coming to an end or not, Liverpool have made great strides in a few years, Mohamed Salah handled the pressure well and is responsible for the goals even if the team is not at their best.”

He continued: “In recent years, Salah has been trying to score goals, the players have been creative with their style, whether it’s Andy Robertson or Trent Alexander-Arnold, whoever he is, they’ve helped him score goals.”

And he concluded: “At the moment everything is going wrong and this is what affects Salah, I don’t think the reason is only that, but more than that, it has to do with the game of everyone at Liverpool on the field.”
