A Catalan press report says that Barcelona want their defender Gerard Piqué to retire at the end of the season.

And the newspaper Sport published Piquet’s previous statements after his club lost 8-2 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, in which he said: “We have reached the bottom if I have to leave so that the team gets new blood, I’ll leave”.

Piqué also confirmed: “If (coach) Koeman tells me tomorrow that I have to leave, I will retire from football, I will not play for any other team except Barcelona.

Piqué concluded his statements: “I will retire at Barcelona, but not as an alternative.”

The Catalan newspaper pointed out that everything Piqué said he said in recent years, when he was a key player in Barcelona, and now he is always on the bench.

The newspaper stated that the club’s contract with Andreas Christensen and Jules Condé, in addition to the presence of the young duo Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo, led to Pique’s presence on the bench.

Despite his presence as a substitute, Piqué earns the highest salary in Barcelona and the League, which means that he creates problems for the Blaugrana because he does not provide any sporting increase, while burdening the club economically.
