The Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN) expressed its concern on Monday about the closure of several pools in various parts of the country, recalling the implications of these decisions in the deterioration of the population’s health.
Taking into account the supreme values of the health and quality of life of the Portuguese, the Portuguese Swimming Federation requests the immediate opening of swimming pools closed for energy reasons.
The FPN says that it has faced the closure of swimming pools with arguments as diverse as the conditions caused by the health crisis derived from Covid-19, the consequences of the drought affecting the country and the increase in the cost of energy.
The organization warns of the “direct consequences on all age groups of the Portuguese population and socioeconomic strata”, also referring to the “public investments” made by the different governments in recent decades.
Likewise, these closures affect the federative programs in collaboration with various entities, such as ‘Portugal a Nadar’ and ‘Aquatic Competition’.
“The FPN will continue to work with public, private and institutional partners for the implementation of aquatic activities, such as a National plan, but, cannot, alone, respond to the challenge of knowing how to swim“, he added.
