“Beijing expresses strong dissatisfaction and strong opposition to the United States over US President Joe Biden’s remarks about Taiwan, and Beijing has made serious representations in Washington on this issue,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference.

“The statements by the US side grossly violate the One China Principle and the provisions of the China-US Three Joint Communiqués, and seriously violate the US’s important commitment not to support Taiwan independence,” she said.

The spokeswoman also stressed that “China will not tolerate attempts to divide the country and reserves the right to take all necessary measures, stressing that “there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government China”.

Biden recently said in an interview with CBSN that “the United States will defend Taiwan if China invades.”
