Portugal will once again be part of the elite world surfing circuit in 2023 with the return to Peniche, which will host the third of 10 stages in March, the World Surf League (WSL) announced on Monday.
In March 2022, and after two years of interruption, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the best surfers in the world had passed through Peninche, which in 2023 will welcome them between March 8 and 16.
The world circuit starts between January 29 and February 10 at Pipeline, in Hawaii, United States, a destination that also hosts the second stage, between February 12 and 23, this time at Sunset Beach.
After passing through Portugal, the surfers head to two stages in Australia, in Bells Beach, from April 4 to 14, followed by Margaret River, between April 20 and 30.
The return to the American continent takes place on May 27 and 28, at the Surf Ranch Pro, United States, before El Salvador enters the calendar, from June 9 to 18.
This is followed by Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, between June 23 and July 1, J-Bay in South Africa, from July 13 to 22, ending the circuit in French Polynesia, between July 11 and 20. August.
