The canoeist Fernando Pimenta was crowned this Thursday world champion of short runmarathon speciality, he succeeded his compatriot José Ramalho in Ponte de Lima, in what was Portugal’s fifth podium finish in the competition.
Pimenta, who this season won three medals in the world championships and as many in European speed races (on-line regattas), extended the season to be able to compete at home, offering thousands of fans an impeccable event that earned him a gold without precedents .
Pepper, who was always at the forefront, completed the test in 12.49 minutesbeating the Danish Mads Pedersen, who was still pushing in the final stretch, by 65 hundredths of a second.

Pimenta has not competed in marathons since 2012, at the World Cup in Rome, when he was runner-up in the U-23 world and bronze in seniors, on consecutive days.
On Saturday, Pimenta and Ramalho compete in the long race of K1 and on Sunday they will form a team in K2.
