Catarina Costa, European runner-up in -48 kg, was eliminated this Thursday in her debut at the Judo World Championships, in Tashkent, after losing in extra time to the German Katharina Menz, by waza ari.
The Academic judoka, who had high aspirations for a good result in the capital of Uzbekistan, where Portugal competes with eight athletes, was surprised by Menz, with whom she had already fought four times, with two victories for each.
Catarina Costa, who this year won silver at the Europeans, in Sofia, after finishing fifth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, still saw how the panel of referees reversed a waza arithat would give her victory at the beginning of extra time, but shortly after it ended up being the German scoring and pushing her.
