Spanish Alejandro Hernández will referee Sporting’s reception against Marseille in the Football Champions League on Wednesday, and Romanian István Kovács will referee FC Porto’s visit to Bayer Leverkusen, UEFA reported on Monday.
On matchday four of Group D, Alejandro Hernández will be assisted by his compatriots José Naranjo and Diego Sánchez Rojo, with fellow Spaniard Ricardo de Burgos as video referee.
The 29-year-old Spanish referee will referee a Sporting match for the first time, after having already been at Benfica – Midtjylland (4-1), in the third round of the Champions League this season.
Sporting leads Group D with six points, two more than Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt, while Marseille is bottom with three.
In Leverkusen, on matchday four of Group B, István Kovács will referee FC Porto’s visit to Bayerwhich will have the Romanians Ovidiu Artene and Mihai Marica as assistants, while the Italian Paolo Valeri will be the video referee.
Kovács will be in the match against FC Porto for the second time, after having starred in a 3-1 loss for the Dragons at home to the same Bayer Leverkusen in 2019/20, in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
In Group B, the Dragons are runners-up, six points behind the leader Club Brujas and on a par with the pharmacists, third, and Atlético de Madrid, fourth.
