Former Dutch international soccer player Marc Overmars has been hospitalized due to a “mild stroke,” Antwerp, the Belgian club where he is sports director, reported on Friday.

“Marc Overmars, Antwerp’s director of football, fell ill yesterday [quinta-feira] at night and was admitted to the hospital with a minor stroke. It’s alright though but you should be quiet for a while“, reported the club.

Overmars, 49, started working in Antwerp in March, just weeks after leaving the same position at Ajax in the Netherlands.

“Marc and his family are focused on his recovery and do not wish to comment further. Antwerp loves Marc rapid improvements ”, added the club.

As a footballer, the winger stood out above all at Ajax, Arsenal and FC Barcelona.
