A cybersecurity researcher has discovered the possibility of thieves using modern technology to break into and operate certain models of Tesla’s electric cars.
And Bloomberg news agency Sultan Qasim Khan, the security consultant of Manchester-based “NCC Group,” reported that the hacking of the “Tesla S” and “Tesla Y” models was it is possible and any thief can do it. open the car and start the engine and start it.
Qasim Khan explained that by rerouting communication between the cell phone or security key (remote control) of the Tesla car owner and the car itself, an intruder could trick the vehicle’s entry system into believing that the owner of the vehicle was already there.
Although Khan explained the procedure to the Bloomberg News Agency on one of Tesla’s car models, he added that this hack is not limited to Tesla cars only.
He pointed out that the operation was the result of tampering with Tesla’s keyless entry system based on the so -called Bluetooth Low Energy protocol.
There is no evidence that thieves used this hack to improperly access Tesla cars, and the automaker did not respond to a request for comment.
A Tesla official said the NCC detailed its findings in a note on Sunday.
Noting that this opens up the possibility of an attack on Tesla and company officials don’t see it as a major risk, Khan said the automaker should change its hardware and keyless entry system to fix the security vulnerability.
This researcher’s revelations came after another security researcher named David Colombo discovered a way to control certain functions of Tesla cars, such as opening and closing doors and controlling music volume. .
