Three new Polestar arrive: 3, 4 and 5 will be 100% electric

The newly formed Polestar Portugal, which will start marketing its first vehicle in our country today, the Polestar 2, is ready to quickly reinforce its range of vehicles. Therefore, it plans to launch one new electric vehicle per year, starting in 2022.

Polestar already has the 2 on the market, a sedan designed on the same platform that also serves the Volvo XC-40 and C-40 Recharge, that is, a chassis that was born to mount combustion engines, but that was adapted to installation. batteries and electric motors. But this will be the last model that Polestar will base on a platform that many consider “multi-energy”, since from now on only specific architectures will be used, optimized for electric models.

This solution saves weight, designing a shorter front -since it will not admit large combustion engines, bulky gearboxes and mechanical all-wheel drive systems-, increasing the space available for the passenger compartment and the trunk. These arguments make vehicles more efficient, which translates into greater autonomy with less battery capacity.

The next Polestar to hit the market will be the 3, a kind of 100% battery-powered XC90, which is understandable, as it will also serve as the basis for the successor to this top-of-the-range electric SUV. Volvo’s The 3 will be unveiled later this year, promising to be long, with a long wheelbase, but lower than a conventional SUV, to gain agility and mass distribution, making it more enjoyable to drive.

After the Polestar 3 will come the 4, in 2023, again an SUV, but smaller than the 3, with the brand that belongs to Volvo and Geely respecting the chronological order, but not the one determined by the dimensions. The 4 will be similar to the current XC60, but always exclusively electric. Next up will be the Polestar 5, a sort of four-door sporty Gran Coupe, which should be based on the Precept prototype. Unlike the Polestar 3 and 4, the 5 will have a platform to be used only by this brand, which is strange, given the interests in the world of electric vehicles that Volvo and Geely also have. Polestar 5 is scheduled for 2024.
