Earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shakes southern Peru

An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shook southern Peru this Thursday morning at 7:02 am, reported the National Seismological Center.

The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 20 kilometers northeast of Ayaviri, capital of the province of Melgar, about 400 kilometers from La Paz, the Bolivian capital.

In the last 24 hours, two other earthquakes were registered in the country, one of 4.2 intensity in Olmos, in the north of Peru, 400 km from the border with Ecuador, another, of 4.3, in Pucallpa, in east-central Peru, closer to the border with Brazil.

The earthquake, which was recorded on land at a depth of 212 kilometers, was also felt in Bolivia, Brazil and Chile.

The United States Geological Survey also registered the earthquake and pointed to a greater intensity of 7.2 on the Richter scale.
