Six continental districts under orange heat alert

Six districts of mainland Portugal are this Sunday under orange warning Due to the expected continuation of hot weatheraccording to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora and Beja will be below orange warning until 18:00 on Tuesday due to high temperature values.

Also due to the warm weather, the IPMA placed the districts of Vila Real, Viseu, Santarem and Setúbal under yellow warning until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and the one in Braga until 6:00 p.m. today.

The orange warning indicates a moderate to high risk weather situation and the yellow warning is issued by the IPMA when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

According to IPMA, the district of Guarda today presents “extreme risk” of exposure to ultraviolet radiation and the other districts of the country are at “very high” risk.

The IPMA recommends for regions at extreme risk to avoid sun exposure as much as possible.

For very high risk regions, the IPMA advises the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hat, ‘t-shirt’, umbrella, sunscreen and avoid exposing children to the sun.

The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera forecasts for today, in continental Portugal, hot weather, with the possibility of showers and storms in the afternoon in the North and Central interior, and light to moderate wind. The maximum temperatures forecast for today range between 26 degrees Celsius in Aveiro and 41 in Évora.
