The northern and central regions of the continent will be, at least until Thursday, with high and very high concentrations of pollen in the atmosphere, according to the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC).
According to the pollen bulletin, published by SPAIC, until June 30 low to moderate levels expected in the south of the continent.
For the Madeira archipelago, low pollen levels in the atmosphere and high in the Azores.
SPAIC adds that pollen grains from grasses and parietarian herbs, which have a high allergenic capacity, predominate throughout the country.
In the Lisbon and Setúbal region, pollens are found at moderate levels, with a predominance of grasses and parietal herbs, and eucalyptus.
In Porto (region between the Douro and the Minho), pollens are found at very high levels, especially grasses and parietaria herbs and chestnut.
In the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region, pollens are also very high in grasses, parietaria and banana, and in olive and chestnut trees.
In Coimbra (Beira Litoral region), the levels are also very high and grass and parietaria pollen predominate.
In the region of Beira Interior (Castelo Branco), pollens stand out with high levels of grasses and parietal herbs and olive, oak and chestnut trees.
In Évora (Alentejo region), pollens are found at moderate levels in the atmosphere, with a predominance of pollens from grasses and parietarias.
In the Algarve region, with moderate levels, pollens from grasses and parietarian herbs dominate.
According to SPAIC, they must avoid outdoor activities when pollen counts are high.
“Walking in the garden, mowing the lawn, camping, or playing sports outdoors will increase your exposure to pollen and your risk of allergies,” it adds.
SPAIC also considers that the medication will be the most effective way to combat allergy symptomsadvises the consultation of a specialist in immunoallergy for the correct diagnosis and prescription of the most appropriate medication and warns that prevention “can go through the realization of anti-allergy vaccines”.
