92 motorcycles seized by police were crushed by backhoe

Motorcycles and ATVs are agile and small vehicles, characteristics that some drivers take advantage of to commit excesses and illegalities and then evade the authorities. But, in New York, there is not so much “freedom” to commit violations and abuses, from wheelies out of control or on sidewalks, as that the police have orders to seize vehicles, many of them illegal, and then spectacularly destroy them.

The measure – which may seem extreme to many – aims to definitively remove the offending vehicles from circulation, at the same time harming the owners who committed the “skills” that put other users of the public road in danger. But more than destroying motorcycles and quadricycles, the authorities chose to do it to launch a seductive message on social networks.

New York Mayor Eric Adams requested publicizing the penalty, which may have been amusing to those who saw it, but not to the owners of the vehicles involved. In the videos, shared via Twitter, Eric Adams can be seen giving the flag to the Caterpillar crawler backhoe, which then imposed its enormous weight on the 92 “victims”, on two and four wheels.

This batch of 92 slaughtered vehicles is far from the first in this battle between the NYPD and motorcycles. According to the mayor, the total number of seized and crushed vehicles is around 2,000 units. The backhoe is still spotless and ready to tear up a few thousand more…
