In a recent note, Google’s head of human resources told employees they could “reasonably” apply for job transfers after the Supreme Court overturned the decision. Rowe vs. Wade.
CNBC reported that Google sent a corporate email Friday to reverse the Supreme Court ruling. Rowe vs. Wade stating that any employee in the affected states can apply for relocation without giving reasons. Google HR director Fiona Cicconi said in an email:
This is a profound change for the country that has greatly affected many of us, especially women. Googlers can also apply for resettlement without justification, and those responsible for the process know the situation.
The note did not specify how many employees could benefit from it, and no promises were made. The company is trying to reassign employees who do not want to return to their physical office in accordance with its return-to-office policy that started in April.
The company told CNBC that the relocation policy was in effect prior to the Supreme Court decision. Google has more than 30 offices in the United States. Cicconi also said in an email that the company will offer “support sessions” to employees in the coming weeks.
Other tech companies, including Amazon and Facebook (now Meta), have offered to pay their employees to travel for an abortion if they’re in states where it’s banned by the Supreme Court.

How are you all,
The US Supreme Court this morning in Dobbs v. Roe v. wade.
This is a profound change for the country that has greatly affected many of us, especially women. Everyone will react in their own way, whether it’s processing, speaking, volunteering outside of work, often not wanting to talk about it, or a desire for a place and time for something completely different. Please remember how your co-workers are feeling and, as always, treat each other with respect.
As a company, fairness is very important to us, and we share concerns about the impact this decision will have on people’s health, lives and careers. We will continue to strive to make reproductive health information available on our products and to protect user privacy.
To support Google employees and their dependents, our US Benefits and Health Plan covers out-of-state medical procedures that are not available where the employee lives and works. Googlers can also apply for resettlement without justification, and those responsible for the process know the situation. If you need additional support, please contact a one-on-one HR advisor.
We will be holding support sessions for Google employees in the United States in the coming days. They will be published on Google News.
Please feel free to count on your Google community in the coming days and keep taking care of yourself and each other.
