Grim Zuck: Facebook employees ‘heating up’ to layoffs ‘shouldn’t be here’

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees at a recent Q&A session that he plans to “warm up” performance targets to eliminate employees “who shouldn’t be there.” Zuckerberg sadly looked at Facebook’s economy and performance and said, “If I had to bet I would say this could be one of the worst recessions we’ve seen in recent history.”

Reuters reports that Facebook CEO (now Meta) Mark Zuckerberg told employees at a recent Q&A session that he plans to “warm up” performance targets as the company’s growth continues to slow. “If I had to bet I would say this could be one of the worst recessions we’ve seen in recent history,” Zuckerberg told employees on an audiotape listened to by Reuters.

Zuckerberg told his employees that the company has set aggressive performance targets to lose employees who don’t fit in. “Actually, there’s a bunch of people at the company that probably don’t belong here,” Zuckerberg said.

He added: “Part of my hope in raising expectations, setting more aggressive goals, and warming up a bit is that some of you may decide that this is not the place for you and that I am the chosen one. I love it”.

Zuckerberg also told his employees that the company had cut its annual engineer hiring plan from 10,000 to 6,000 to 7,000. Chris Cox, director of product, said in a recent note that the company needs to “prioritize more brutally” and “manage thinner, more meaningful, better teams.”

Facebook is also facing a massive backlash after allegations of apps developed for VR headsets surfaced. Developers have already begun to complain about the business terms the company has set as it tries to make CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of the metaverse come true.

Facebook has pledged to spend $10 billion a year over the next 10 years to build the metaverse. Other tech giants, including Apple and Microsoft, have also started experimenting with their own AR and VR headsets.

However, many developers have spoken Financial TimesStating that Facebook has started pushing a payment model for a VR app store, similar to the current system used by many mobile app stores. This seems to directly contradict Zuckerberg’s previous criticism of the billing policies used by mobile app stores.
