Strike by prison guards attached to the Lisbon PJ with maximum support, says union

The strike by prison guards attached to the Lisbon Judicial Police recorded 100 percent participation this Wednesday on the first day of protest motivated by issues related to safety and working conditions, a union source revealed.

According to what Frederico Morais, president of the National Union of the Prison Guard Corps (SNCGP), told Lusa, there are 40 guards who provide services in that penitentiary establishment assigned to the PJ.

At the time of scheduling the strike, Frederico Morais clarified that the total strike is linked to “security failures and disorganization” in that prison attached to the Lisbon PJ, a situation that, he said, “has been going on for three years.”

Despite the strike, Minimum services were assured this Wednesday.

On the other hand, two of the three scheduled visits to the court were canceled. Hospital visits for medical appointments by inmates were also canceled due to the protest.

According to the SNCGP, the strike notice was communicated to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Justice, among other government officials, as well as the new director general of Reintegration and Penitentiary Services and the director of the prison in question. .

Frederico Morais regretted that, Despite the ongoing strike, there has so far been no response to the issues or dialogue from the Ministry of Justice..
