According to a recent internal memo, Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook is reportedly reallocating resources from the News tab and Newsletter news feed platform in an effort to focus more on its “creative economy.”
Wall Street Magazine According to an employee memo from senior executive Campbell Brown, the company reported reallocating resources from Facebook’s News tab and Newsletter newsletter platform as it focuses more on its “creative economy.”
Brown, a former journalist who manages Facebook’s global media partnerships, told employees that the company will move product development and support away from news products because “these teams are committed to building a stronger economy for content creators.”
Facebook News is a collection of news that subscribers can find as a tab on a mobile app or website, similar to the Watch Facebook tab of movies. Introduced by Facebook in June 2021, Bulletin is a subscription platform designed to compete with Substack.
Brown thanked the staff involved in the projects for “the incredible, fruitful and hard work the partnership team has done over the past few years to build this experience.”
Brown added: “It’s a work of love for most of us, and I know it’s hard to see these products take a backseat. These are products that add tremendous value to our partners and users.”
A spokesperson for Meta said the company reviews its products frequently “to make sure we’re focused on the experiences that are most meaningful to people at Facebook and the future of our business.”
The spokesperson added: “We are committed to the success of creators and do more to help them find an audience on Facebook and build relevant communities there.”
Breitbart News reports that Zuckerberg’s obsession with the Metaverse has caused internal turmoil. One of the reasons the company focuses on its “creative economy” is Zuckerberg’s plan to own 50 percent of all digital products sold on Metaverse.
