A recent report claimed that 15 different women accused Apple HR of mishandling serious sexual harassment allegations, with more than half of them claiming that the company retaliated against them for making the complaint.
Financial Times It reported that 15 different women accused Apple HR of abusing allegations of serious misconduct, and more than half said the company retaliated against them for filing the complaint.
Claims of one person’s sexual assault were made hours and later, but the HR manager’s response was ignored and the attack allegedly was a “minor car accident.”
The allegation concerns a woman who was partially undressed by a colleague while she was sleeping.
FT reports:
Megan More had been with Apple for five years when her boyfriend took advantage of her after a platonic night of drinking in 2013.
After being taken home by a colleague and helped inside, he fell asleep for a moment before being woken up by a click. His colleague took off his shirt and bra. He took a picture and smiled.
Mohr said that a previous bad experience with Apple HR led him not to report the incident at the time, but came forward with allegations after the #MeToo movement. However, he was told that Apple would not take any action, even if they admitted they were wrong about a colleague.
FT reports:
Mohr thought it was a modest request, but the email exchange, seen by the Financial Times, soon turned harsh and defensive. The Human Resources representative showed little empathy or experience when dealing with sexual harassment. He likened his experience to a “minor car accident” to explain why Apple didn’t intervene.
Mohr claims that Apple Human Resources responded by saying, “While what he did as an Apple employee was personally reprehensible and potentially criminal, he did not violate any rules in the context of his employment at Apple.”
More left the company, saying he wanted Apple to align its policies with the stated values: “I just want it to be the company that Apple treats its customers like,” he said.
