The president of the board of directors of Águas da Região de Aveiro (AdRA) assured this Wednesday that, despite the drought, the investment made in the efficiency of the system allows the regularity of the supply to 350 thousand population.
“The timely investment made by AdRA and the Association of Municipalities of Carvoeiro — Vouga allows the populations to have security on the availability of water in this period of extreme drought“Fernando Vasconcelos declared.
The chairman of the AdRA board of directors stresses, however, that “it is essential that people and companies adopt good practicesusing water sparingly.
According to the company, despite the situation of hydrological drought currently affecting continental Portugal, Águas da Região de Aveiro “has guaranteed the regularity and quality of the water supply to the approximately 350,000 inhabitants served in its coverage area.”
“The solidity of the AdRA system and the Carvoeiro Regional System is reinforced by the increase in efficiency and the consequent reduction of water losses in about a quarter of the region’s annual consumption (four million cubic meters/year), which allows us to face this difficult period with confidence,” he adds.
AdRA – Águas da Região de Aveiro, SA is a public limited company that follows a new model of delegated management of public water supply and sanitation services, in partnership between the State and local authorities.
The company is responsible for managing water and sanitation services in a dozen municipalities: Águeda, Albergaria-a-Velha, Aveiro, Estarreja, Ílhavo, Murtosa, Oliveira do Bairro, Ovar, Sever do Vouga and Vagos.
The high altitude water supply is, in turn, ensured by the Carvoeiro Regional System, with a set of open well catchments in the Vouga river alluvium, near the village of Carvoeiro, in the municipality of Águeda.
