Civil Protection registered between 00:00 and 07:00 on Wednesday 94 events related to bad weather on the mainland, mainly floods and falling trees, Commander Rodrigo Bertelo told Lusa.
The commander of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) said, around 8:20 a.m., that in that period the districts of Lisbon, Viseu, Coimbra, Braga, Setúbal, Santarém and Porto were the most affected.
“Regarding the event recorded on Tuesday in Sameiro, in the municipality of Manteigas, the cleaning work, which was interrupted at 00:20 hours, will resume at 08:30 hours,” he added.
The rain that fell on Tuesday in the town of Sameiro, district of Guarda, dragged dirt and debris from the burned areas of the Serra da Estrela.
The president of the Municipal Chamber of Manteigas, Flávio Massano, says that “we are enormous, several road trips dragged by the water force, there are houses and businesses affected, roads, public lighting, water and sanitation infrastructure, sports and leisure equipment, among others”.
Due to bad weather, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow alert for 14 districts of mainland Portugal due to the forecast of sometimes intense rains and occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts.
According to the IPMA, the districts of Viana do Castelo, Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Vila Real, Bragança, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Leiria and Castelo Branco will be under yellow notice until 6:00 p.m. this Wednesday, and Portalegre, Évora . and Beja until 12:00.
The yellow notice is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
