A team from Aristotle University found the statue, albeit in several pieces, in an area that was once part of the Roman and Byzantine empires.

In classical mythology, Hercules was famous for having superhuman strength and was seen as a hero of the weak and defender of the great.

Heraclius is usually depicted with a lion skin cloak over his arm and a stick in his hand.

Each of these elements was found by a group of professors and students from Aristotle University, which helped them identify the ancient artifact called Hercules.

The statue was found on the east side of the city’s main street. Scholars believe it once adorned a late Byzantine building in the eighth or ninth century AD, so the statue itself likely dates back hundreds of years. This discovery gives an idea of ​​how important the buildings were decorated with statues of the people of the time.
