Japan is bolstering its navy with new missile carriers

Japanese media reported that the Japanese Ministry of Defense plans to support the Navy with new missile carriers.

According to the Sankei Shimbun newspaper, “The new Japanese missile carriers will have advanced Aegis tracking and guidance systems that will allow them to launch long-range missiles that can hit their targets without coming within range of the enemy’s weapons.”

The newspaper pointed out that the Japanese Navy should buy two ships of the new category between 2027 and 2028, each of which will have a length of about 210 meters and a displacement of 20,000 tons.

The size of these ships will help equip them with powerful radars capable of engaging the Aegis Ashore missile defense system, allowing them to have a variety of systems for launching mines and naval torpedoes, as well as giving them large long-range. missiles. Combat sea and land targets.

Sankei Shimbun, “Japan currently has no defense tools dedicated to countering weapons and hypersonic missiles and accelerating the development of anti-systems for these weapons, proposed to submit to Japan a draft defense budget for 2023.”
