Turkey.. the discovery of an ancient cemetery where strange burials were held

During searches and excavations in the ancient city of Sagalassos, whose ruins are in the province of Antalya, Turkish archaeologists found an ancient cemetery where unique burial ceremonies were held.

Antiquity magazine says that Alexander the Great captured this city in 333 BC, and the objects and artifacts found by scientists in this cemetery date back to AD 100-150.

This cemetery is distinguished from other Roman tombs found elsewhere by cremation, where they are cremated in the same place, then buried under a layer of lime and brick. . Scientists have also discovered deliberately bent nails next to the remains of corpses in graves.

Experts believe that strange funeral ceremonies were held in the city of Sagalassos. It seems that those who performed the funeral were afraid of revenge for the dead. Because the thorns were probably seen as a “magic barrier” and that’s why they were placed around the ashes. In addition, lime was used not only for aesthetic reasons, but also to keep a person or soul on earth.
