Since its arrival in our country, in October 2023, the 2nd generation of the Tesla Model 3 seems to have always been missing a version, which began to be proposed a long time ago in the United States. We are referring to the Long Range RWD (with rear-only drive, as opposed to all-wheel drive units, called AWD), which would compete with the Standard Range RWD for the status of the most affordable version. Finally, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD can now also be purchased in Portugal.
This version has a larger capacity battery that guarantees impressive autonomy of 702 km and install a more powerful engine, with 375 HPto make the fastest electric sedan, requiring only €5,000 more compared to the Standard RWD rangewhich is still the most affordable.
The new Model 3, which replaced the previous generation at the end of last year, gained a series of new arguments to attract customers, from more careful construction to better materials and optimized sound insulation. But what interests customers most is maintained or even improved.offering the Standard Range RWD version for the same price below 40,000 euros (€39,990) and a range that increases from 455 to 554 km, with 18” wheels (513 km with 19”, despite the fact that the battery maintains the 60 kWh of displacement and the engine has 283 HP of power, which allows it to go from 0 to 100 in 6.1 seconds and reach 201 km/h.
The new Tesla Model 3 arrives in October. Find out what changes
The new Long Range RWD version promises to be substantially more interesting, for those who can spend €44,990. Start using the larger battery of Model 3 and Y (78 gross kWh and 75 useful kWh), with the advantage of adopting the NMC chemistry (nickel, manganese and cobalt), instead of the Chinese 60 kWh LFP battery, which guarantee lower energy density. Therefore, compared to the Standard Range RWD, the Long Range RWD increases the range from 554 to 702 km with 18” wheels, or from 513 to 640 km with 19” wheels. Equally important is the fact that the 60 kWh battery recharges at 170 kW in direct current (DC), while the 75 kWh loads at 250 kWwhich speeds up loading operations.
As for engines, although both versions only have a drive unit in the rear, the one equipped with a 60 kWh battery provides 283 HP according to the North American press, since Tesla does not reveal the power of its models. The Model 3 with a 75 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive has 375 HP, which explains why the Long Range RWD, maintaining a maximum speed of 201 km/h, goes from From 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 secondsinstead of the Standard Range RWD’s 6.1 seconds.
The introduction of the new version did not change the offering of the others, with the top of the range being the Model 3 Performance (€57,490), followed by the Long Range AWD (€48,990). However, It remains to be seen how Tesla will proceed with respect to the Standard Range RWD which, being manufactured in China, will bear an additional tax of 9%, which raises its price to 43,589 euros.too close to the €44,990 for the RWD with the large battery. In the US, where the surcharge applied to Chinese trams is 100%, Tesla has already announced the death of the less powerful version with a 60 kWh battery, so it remains to be seen what will happen in Europe ( and Portugal), where the tax is lower can lead the builder to absorb it, to avoid harming the client.
