The Captaincy of Funchal warns of serious maritime disturbances in Madeira

The Funchal port captain issued a warning of strong maritime disturbances for the coast of the Madeira archipelago, valid until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Based on the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) on the general meteorological situation (wind and sea), the regional maritime authority indicates that the waves will be of the order of 4.5 meters on the north coast, with 2 .5 meters in the southern part.

As for the wind, it will be from the northeast “fresh to very fresh, becoming moderate to fresh from the beginning of the night, sometimes very fresh at the end” and visibility “good to moderate, sometimes weak at the beginning.”

Given this meteorological situation, the captain’s office recommends that the entire maritime community and the population in general take precautions, both when preparing to go out to sea and when they are at sea or in coastal areas.

Among the recommendations, it indicates the reinforcement of the mooring and the maintenance of close surveillance of the moored and anchored vessels, it advises against traveling by sea or in areas exposed to maritime agitation and the practice of recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and areas of cliffs. frequently hit by breaking waves.
