Airbus will eliminate 2,500 jobs in its Defense and Space division

Airbus has announced that it will cut 2,500 jobs in its Defense and Space division, the latest sign of the difficulties facing the European aerospace industry.

The division, which employs 35,000 people, is facing a drop in demand for satellites and, as a result, Airbus said in a statement that it had to adapt its organization and workforce.

“These measures are expected to lead to the elimination of 2,500 jobs at Airbus Defense and Space by mid-2026,” reads the distributed note.

The company also stated that it will begin negotiations with unions about the planned changes and stated that it intends to avoid forced dismissals.

“No mandatory action is planned, Airbus will work with its social partners to limit the impact, using all available social measures”stood out.

Airbus’s profit fell 46% to 825 million euros in the first half of the year, due to a reduction of 989 million euros in its space activity.

The CEO of Airbus Defense and Space, Mike Schoellhorn, quoted in the statement, stated that “in recent years, “The space and defense sector, and therefore our division, has been affected by a very difficult and rapidly changing business environment.”.

Among the challenges faced are “disruptions in supply chains, rapid changes due to war and pressure on the defense and space sector,” the manager highlighted.
