Several Foreign Ministers, former Heads of State and representatives of international organizations are expected to attend. Tribute will be paid to Jorge Sampaio.
The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, will participate in the 10th World Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) to be held in Estoril at the end of November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this Wednesday.
The meeting that will mark twenty years of the genesis of the Alliance of Civilizations aims to take stock of the work carried out in the last two decades and “project the future of the initiative.”
The forum will take place between November 25 and 27 and in addition to the presence of the Secretary General of the United Nations “the heads of State of the eight countries that organized the previous forums were invited: Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Qatar, Austria, Indonesia, Azerbaijan and Morocco,” says a statement from the Paulo Rangel’s office.
As the host country, Portugal should invite representatives from Saudi Arabia, which will host the 11th Global Forum in 2026, South Africa and Cape Verde.
“The participation of a few dozen Foreign Ministers is expected, as well as senior officials from various international organizations. Several former heads of State and Government will be present,” adds the statement from the organization of the meeting.
The Forum will take place in Estoril Congress Center and is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to the events scheduled at the São Julião da Barra Fort.
According to the organization, between 1,500 and two thousand participants will be present, including senior United Nations officials, political, religious and cultural leaders, representatives of international organizations, research centers and civil society.
During the work there will be a Tribute session to President Jorge Sampaio (1939-2021), first High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.
