The Castelo Branco City Council will build in the center of the city, in Praça da Devesa, the largest dynamic fountain in the country, with projections of water, sound and light, reported the president of the municipality, Leopoldo Rodrigues.
The public tender for the project, which provides for other interventions in the city’s Civic Center, was launched by 740 thousand euros and the president of the Albicastrense municipality told the Lusa agency that proposals have already been opened and the contract, which has an execution period of four months, remains to be awarded.
According to Leopoldo Rodrigues, the construction of the dynamic fountain “It has two fundamental objectives,” which include mitigating high temperatures and being a reason for attracting visitors..
“On the one hand, the objective is to alleviate the temperatures felt in the city, especially during spring, summer and part of autumn. On the other hand, attract a greater number of visitors to the city’s Civic Center, because we believe that the dynamic fountain will also be a factor of attraction and promotion of the territory,” stressed Leopoldo Rodrigues, in statements to the Lusa agency.
According to the socialist mayor, the fountain will have a central tank measuring 14 by 14 meters and an area that will surround this central tank and will have equipment so that people can enjoy the space.
“Once completed, it will be the largest dynamic fountain in the national territory.. At least that’s what they tell me. It will be a good element to attract visitors, tourists and also to mitigate the temperature,” added the president of the municipality.
According to Leopoldo Rodrigues, the proposal comes from the authors of the Center for Contemporary Culture of Castelo Branco (CCCB) and the project includes other interventions in Praça da Devesa, such as the construction of a children’s playground.
It is also planned to convert the skating rink into a glass-enclosed multipurpose space, an “auditorium” that could be used “for conferences, exhibitions, workshops, possibly to work with artists,” said the mayor, who highlighted the “multiple uses.”
“The track ended up not having the dynamics that were expected and not having the result that was expected.“, justified Leopoldo Rodrigues, to explain the conversion of the skating rink into another structure.
The mayor highlighted that the solution found was proposed by the architects who created the CCCB, taking into account the entire environment.
