Fox News columnist Judith Miller told Fox News Live Sunday that Republicans need to stop being “the party of horrific mass shootings and uncontrolled guns.”
Miller said: “There’s always the possibility that Lucy will undermine Charlie Brown and football. You see, we live in this world very often and nothing has changed. The Senate will go into recess next week. This means that people’s anger and resentment towards this latest massacre will lessen. I think that’s what the NRA and other gun advocates have been waiting for. But I think this time it might be different.”
“We lose 15,000 people a year to gun deaths, 1,500 die a year, but many more deaths could have been prevented by reasonable gun laws,” Miller said. If New Zealand and Australia can do it after the mass killings, why can’t we? I think it really depends on the Republicans now. They must stop being a party of open mass hunting and unrestrained weapons. It should stop. It’s up to them. I think Mitch McConnell’s instruction to Republicans to negotiate with Democrats shows that he understands that something is changing. The question is, how long will the chaos of such mass shootings last? Is it enough to finally force the country, the Senate, the House of Representatives, into some sort of sensible gun control? We still don’t know.
